AROMATHERAPY FOR SPORT

Aromatherapy for sport is very beneficial. Aromatherapy essential oils can be used before & after any strenuous activity. Vigorous exercise causing muscle aches, pains & joint stiffness are relieved by relaxing oils.

Preparation

Warming up before any strenuous activity is important if you are not to over stretch or strain your body.

Below I have listed some warming oils which I suggest you mix into carrier oil and rub well into your legs, arms and shoulders and lower back at least 15 minutes before your exercise session.

- Benzoin

- Black pepper

- Cajuput

- Clary sage

- Clove

- Ginger

- Marjoram

Aftercare

After vigorous exercise your muscles cool down and the fibers start to shorten again. This can cause aches and pains, and the joints become stiff. Speed up your recovery with the following relaxing oils:

- Benzoin

- Chamomile

- Frankincense

- Jasmine

- Lavender

- Sandalwood

- Vetiver

You can add 10 drops of any one of the above oils to your bath and soak for at least 15 minutes.

Or mix into carrier oil and use for self massage.

Here are a couple of specific blends to help.



ACHES and PAIN or SPRAINS –

Add 10 drops of juniper, 10 drops of rosemary and 5 drops of lemongrass oil to 6 fl oz (150 ml) of carrier oil.

CRAMP –

Add ten drops of juniper, 10 drops of marjoram and 5 drops of lemongrass to 6 fl oz (150 ml) of carrier oil.

It’s good idea to massage this into your calf muscles after sport to ward off an attack of cramp.
